Frequently asked questions
Joining a running or walking community can be intimidating at first. That's natural! Read through our questions and learn more about the club.
When and where do you meet?
Our full schedule is on the home page. In general:
- Mornings (usually 6:00 AM Monday, Wednesday and Friday) we meet at 407 Roanoke Street, near downtown Christiansburg. It was formerly Brugh Coffee and a FedEx location, and it’s a well-lit, safe parking lot.
- Evenings (6:00 PM Mondays and Thursdays) we meet near the main entrance of the Montgomery County Courthouse, just around the corner from Iron Tree Brewing Company. There is plenty of free parking nearby.
Is there walking as well as running?
Yes! Mornings are runs, but each evening meetup includes walking.
On Mondays at 6:00 PM we walk, usually for 30 to 45 minutes through neighborhood streets. On Thursdays at 6:00 PM there is a walking group and a running group, often a dozen or more people in each. We stay together and look out for each other.

Who can come to Christiansburg Run Club?
Everyone is welcome. We mean it.
Bring your kids. Bring your dogs. New to the area? Join us! First time out for a walk in a long time? We want you! Experienced runner looking for a workout? We’ll bring the hills.
What's the route?
We don’t have set routes, and that’s part of the adventure. You won’t get lost, though. The route is set while we’re out and is based on what the group wants to do that day. Plan to be out for 30 to 40 minutes.
What if I can't keep up?
We’re an inclusive, no-drop group for both running and walking. Instead of multiple pace groups, we regroup frequently and make sure an experienced person who knows the area is at the back. You’ll always have someone to run or walk with.
Do you walk on Thursdays? Can I just come for the beer?
Yes to both! There is always a big group of walkers on Thursdays, and several of us never run. We come to walk and hang out.
You can also just come for the beer afterward. Join us around 6:45 PM at Iron Tree Brewing Company, where there is usually a food truck. If you arrive before us, stake out a big table. If you don’t drink beer, don’t worry: many of us don’t, and there’s root beer, soda and water too.
Still have a question?
Come to any run or walk and ask. Everyone is happy to help.
